Wall Lizards

These are wonderful creatures. Introduced some time ago on to the Isle of Wight and into Surrey and West Sussex, they are common but very elusive. Their numbers are being carefully monitored by the experts but so far they don't seem to be causing any harm to native reptiles.

Lady Glanville's Fritillary

Here is one of our most beautiful butterflies. Formerly widespread in England it is now restricted to a few sites on the Isle of Wight and on the mainland at the Hordle Cliffs. It is a rare and beautiful sight indeed.

House sparrow and wood pigeon

Here are two of our most familiar birds. They are magnificent. Sadly the house sparrow is now increasingly rare and is endangered. There are many theories why this once familar bird has vanished, but nothing conclusive can be proved. I suspect that loss of nesting places and domestic cats may be the cause. Young sparrows are all too frequently caught by marauding felines.
